SUMMARY  Activities Assistant works in conjunction with the Director of Activities/Assistant Director in the planning, organizing and implementing of recreational activities for the residents of the facility. In addition, this position will be responsible for ensuring all customers/guests are welcomed and assisted in a timely, professional manner as our main entrance greeter.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  1. Maintain computer tracking software for resident activity participation levels.

  2. Prepare electronic version of resident council meeting minutes for Director’s approval. Dissmiminate and track resident council meeting minutes and subsequent follow-up by appropriate parties.

  3. Provides 1-1 visitation and in room activities for residents who are unable to participate in group in activities.

  4. Participates in the planning and implementation of activities for residents within all levels of care (IL, AL, Nursing)

  5. Maintain and update closed circuit television announcements and public information daily.

  6. Sort postal mail daily. Deliver newspapers (am) and mail (pm) to residents daily.

  7. Invite and encourage residents to participate in programs daily when appropriate.

  8. Transport residents to and from activities and dining room as needed. Encourage resident independence but provide assistance as needed during activities.

  9. Keep work (desk) and activity areas organized and in good order before and after each activity session.

  10. Provide library service for residents. Provide reading material in tapes for the blind residents.

  11. Encourage hobbies and provide materials and supplies in keeping with resident interest. Monitor resident during craft activities for safety, i.e. cooking, using a hot glue gun. Instructs and supervises residents during craft activities.

  12. Provide topics of interest to residents in RO class; encouraging resident participation making sure to give date, time, place and weather.

  13. Have understanding of resident's capabilities according to cognitive level and provide appropriate activities for each level.

  14. Encourage social communication among resident through group activities and recreation. Assist in planning parties, provide games and encourage resident participation in planning. Assist in preparing food and decoration for parties, picnics, etc.

  15. Support fellow staff members and respect their responsibilities. Offer assistance when needed.

  16. May require CDL License to transport residents on trips in the facility bus.

     

    SAFETY

  1. Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate staff and complete work orders when indicated.

  2. Identify and remove safety hazards/devices and report to appropriate personnel.

  3. Assure a safe, clean, and clutter free environment.

  4. Utilize standard precautions by wearing protective equipment (goggles, gowns, gloves) when indicated, and uses correct hand washing technique.

  5. Follow facility fire and safety policies.

  6. Is responsible for safety of residents under her supervision.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Valid Maryland CDL drivers license may be required.
