SUMMARY

Assist with food preparation and follows established menu; sets up and delivers resident meals to the floors and to the dining room. Must be familiar with therapeutic diets and the special needs of the residents. Responsible for the delivery of supplements, in an attractive manner, to the resident floors within an established schedule.

Expectations and Responsibilities:
 

  • Prepare dining areas for meals; this will include setting tables with dinnerware and decoration.
  • Serve accurate and attractive meals in a timely manner while follow each resident’s dietary protocol.
  • Ensure proper food temperature when serving.
  • Communicate with and respond to resident meal requests.
  • Obtain meal orders.
  • Monitor and maintain proper levels of supplies and food items in work areas and dining rooms.
  • Observe and report changes in residents dining habits and preferences to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Maintain adequate cleanliness of dining services equipment and work area.
  • Ensure proper storage of food items according to policy.
  • Work in conjunction with activities staff to plan monthly theme meals for resident participation and satisfaction.
  • Help in portioning drinks, fresh salads and desserts for residents.
  • May operate dishwasher when appropriate.

 

1. Stores food and supplies for current and future use.

2. Cleans and maintains assigned equipment and work areas on a daily basis or as assigned.

3. Practices proper infection control through proper dress and personal hygiene, maintenance of equipment and other non-disposable items in a clean and sanitary condition, and proper disposal of garbage. Follows proper safety procedures.

4. Displays a concerned attitude in working with residents, families, visitors and fellow employees.

5. Properly stores food and supplies under supervision of Food Service Director or his/her Assistant.

6. May assist in checking incoming food and supplies under the supervision of the Food Service Director of his/her Assistant.

7. Assists the cook with the preparation of various foods when necessary, such as preparation of salads, desserts, peeling vegetables, etc.

8. Sets up trays in an attractive arrangement.

9. Double checks therapeutic diets on trays for correctness and assures that each resident receives the proper tray when it is served to them.

10. Transports food carts to floors in a safe and timely manner and at the proper temperature when it arrives.

11. Delivers supplemental feedings to each area as scheduled.

12. Assists in setting up the dining room and serving residents, washes and sanitizes all tables after each meal.

13. Maintains proper dress and personal hygiene to foster proper infection control measures.

14. Maintains equipment and work areas for sanitary conditions in compliance with Health Department sanitation guidelines and regulations.

15. Maintains all non-disposable items such as dishes, flatware, utensils, trays, and glassware, in a clean and sanitary state.

16. Makes sure all trash and garbage is disposed of in proper manner and area.

17. Performs routine housekeeping tasks such as cleaning receiving areas, trash area, mopping, sweeping, etc.

18. Observes Dietary area while performing routine duties for presence of insect and other pests, and notifies Food Service Director or his or her Assistant if presence of pests is found.

19. Will follow proper fire safety procedures and knows what to do in case of a fire.

20. Follows proper procedures for resident isolation.

21. Deals with residents, visitors and other employees with a positive and pleasant attitude.

22. Helps with food preparation and serving as required at special events.

23. Sweeps and mops floors, uses carpet sweeper in main dining room after each meal.

24. Operates dish machine following established policy and procedure to wash, unload and put away dishes and pots and pans.

25. Cleans and sanitizes work areas and as assigned.

26. Performs emergency cleaning jobs as necessary.

27. Reports needed equipment repairs to Food Service Director or his or her Assistant.

28. Must have ability to read, write, speak and follow written and oral directions.

29. Attends In-service training classes.

30. Must be able to distinguish colors for color coded diets or be able to read diet as written.

31. Places items such as eating utensils, napkins and condiments on resident trays.

32. Prepares food items such as sandwiches, salads, soup and beverages.

33. Must be able to operate some food service equipment, such as food processor, garbage disposal, microwave, steam table, etc.

34. Portions food for individual servings according to diet list.

35. Examines completed tray for completeness and places on cart.

36. Announces over intercom when each food cart is ready to leave the kitchen.

37. Pulls food carts to designated area at designated time.

38. Serves and sets trays up for those residents who are able to feed themselves.

39. Collects and stacks dirty dishes/trays on cart and return them to the kitchen.

40. Records and documents amount and types of foods and beverages served to designated residents.

41. Scrapes food from dirty dishes and places dishes in racks to be sent through the dishwasher.

42. Washes pots & pans and trays and returns them to proper storage area.

43. Washes work tables, walls, refrigerators, and all others as directed.

44. Washes and sanitizes all trash cans.

45. Obtains food and supplies as instructed.

46. Assists in checking incoming supplies and assists in storing supplies.

47. Assists in serving meals and loading food carts.

48. Assists in setting up dining room and serving residents.

49. Assists in washing dishes and following cleaning procedures.

50. Assists in setting up for next meal.

51. Needs to be able to have comprehension and utilization knowledge of therapeutic diets and to assure correctness of.

52. Ability to calculate total servings needed and to portion out food according to menu.

53. Places in required order meal tickets for each meal.

54. Attends departmental meetings as scheduled.

55. Obeys all safety rules, policies and procedures of Dietary Department and FKMH.

56. Must be able to function as a team player.

 

SAFETY

 

1. Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate staff and complete work orders when indicated.

2. Identify and remove safety hazards/devices and report to appropriate personnel.

3. Assure a safe, clean, and clutter free environment.

4. Utilize standard precautions by wearing protective equipment (goggles, gowns, gloves) when indicated, and uses correct hand washing technique.

5. Follow facility fire and safety policies.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

No prior experience or training.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
