Job Title: In-Home Companion

Department: Environmental Services / Housekeeping / Laundry / In-Home Services

Reports To: Director of Home Based Community Programs / Director of Environmental Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Location : Boonsboro Maryland (near Hagerstown)

 

Full Time or Part Time postions available 
$14.50-$18.50

** Must be Covid Vaccinated **

 

SUMMARY

The Companion is a non-licensed member of the home care team who assists the client with

non-medical tasks of daily living as outlined in a written Service Plan that is established by the Director.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Planning and preparing meals and snacks according to specific dietary requirements of the client

Washes dishes and cleans kitchen

Maintains a safe, clean and healthy environment through housekeeping which includes changing bed linens, dusting and vacuuming, cleaning bathroom, and doing laundry

Provides companionship and stimulation for the client including reading, walks, etc.

Grocery shopping or other errands when needed

Transports client to medical appointments

Provides companionship by reading, conversation, and listening

Participates in appropriate recreational activities and hobbies for social and sensory stimulation

Assists client in completing necessary phone calls, letter writing, etc.

Accompanies client on walks, community trips, bank, etc.

Reminds client to take self-administered medications

Provides emotional support and promotes a sense of well-being

Uses equipment and supplies safely and properly

Participates in in-service education programs

Informs Director of any changes noted in Client or environment

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age and have the ability to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Prior experience is not required but beneficial.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend instructions.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in small group situations to clients, customers, supervisors, and other employees in the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Autonomy

Must possess the ability to work independently and have sound judgment with limited on-site supervision.

The employee must regularly lift/move 25 to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
